Review of some heart touching books:

It's been a long time since I blogged about any books that I have read. The following come to my mind immediately
1."In custody" by Anita desai: It's a book filled with broken dreams and empty bottles. The story of a college teacher who tries hard to pursue his dream of meeting up with a urdu scholar only to discover that the emperor of urdu poetry lives the life of a pauper in his broken down villa. Though many have lauded this book, I found the narrative not so gripping. In fact the pathos brought out at times is repulsive that you dont have the motive to read through. Also the end is very loose and the reader is left to interpret it the way he wants to.I give a 6/10.reading time of around 5 hours.
2.The astral travel workbook-J.H.Brennan: Ok, not many might even want to know about this. But ever since I had a chance out of body experience(OBE), I have been trying to replicate it at will.Though very difficult a task, it is not impossible. I bought this book from the Strand fair in basava bhavan.Give it a 8/10.reading time of around 5 hours.
3.Psychocybernetics-Maltz Maxwell: There are books that make the bestsellers list, then there are books that make your life. This belongs to the latter category. This book was a breath of fresh air for me. I have read a lot of self help books, but this stands out as the best, just for the simplicity with which the techniques described bootstrap a human mind.I recommend this highly to anyone who wishes to see life in a new perspective. Give it a 9.5/10.reading time of 6 hours.
4.Unconditional life-Deepak Chopra: Having read his quantum healing, I didnt have a great trouble laying my hands on this book.Like his previous book, this too has been a good read.Healing from within is what Deepak emphasizes on and the case studies in the book are just amazing.give it a 8/10.reading time of around 6 hours.
5.Drawing realistic textures in pencil-J.D.Hillberry:When I saw my favourite pencil artist's book of techniques I was really amazed that he had intended to share his techniques with amateurs like me.And he doesnt disappoint.I searched for this book across most famous bookstores in India(not wanting to buy it online:-)) only to find this book unavailable here. Then my cousin brother got me a copy from UK, much to my relief. One of the best books that explains the techniques that it promises to teach.I give it a 9.5/10.reading took a long time, nearly a month since I used this as a workbook.Current reads:1.Supernatural-Graham Hancock(So far.. so great)2.The magic of the self-image psychology-Maxwell Maltz(psychocybernetics -II)3.Understanding DSP-Richard Lyons(I do read some technical stuff too:-))And heavily into math these days...............Rudin,Pugh,Apostle,Strang etc are taking up most of my waking time apart from football and watching football on TV( during weekends)

It is a pity, that now I can not express - there is no free time. I will return - I will necessarily express the opinion.
